Wool Applique is portable, easy and quick to stitch. If you’ve always wanted to work with wool but didn’t know where to start, then this class is for you. Jen will teach you the basics of wool applique along with 4-6 stitches for embellishing your project to make it your own.

Sashiko is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching or functional embroidery from Japan. In this introductory workshop to hand Sashiko, students will learn about the history of Sashiko and the basic supplies needed to stitch this unique style. Jen will also show you how to work the stitch and transfer designs, as well as discuss its application for big-stitch hand quilting and Boro, Japanese mending. Students will stitch a preprinted coaster that can be finished in class or at home. Time permitting, students will also mend clothing using Sashiko stitches.

English paper piecing dates back to the late 1700s when hexagon quilts became popular in England. The technique involves basting fabrics over paper templates and then sewing the shapes together by hand. In this introductory workshop to English paper piecing, students will learn the basic techniques including how to cut the fabric, baste the pieces and hand sew them together along with tips and tricks to complete the project successfully. In addition, Jen will also show you how fussy cut fabric and use this technique to create secondary designs with a wow factor.

While this workshop is geared toward beginner stitchers, experienced students will also learn a new tip or two. The workshop will explore the essentials for hand embroidery as well how to start and finish a project including how to set up an embroidery hoop. Students will learn about ways to transfer designs and practice 6 core stitches before starting a delightful stitchery project that can be finished in a variety of ways.
