Happy Apple Quilts began in 2005 as the team effort of twin sisters, Karen Grof and Sharen Weber. The name "Happy Apple" comes from happy childhood memories of our parents' apple orchard in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
Originally started as a pattern designed company, Happy Apple Quilts has grown far beyond pattern design. Like all quilters, we just can't help ourselves. There are always more fabrics, more designs and ideas. More new techniques. More new tools. More opportunities.
A great opportunity was presented to us in December 2014 when Happy Apple Quilts became the Florida distributor of Innova Quilting Machines. Thus began our 2015 expansion project to become Happy Apple Quilts/Florida Quilting Center. We relocated to Westchase Commons on the western edge of Tampa in January 2016. With 7,000 square feet of space custom built to house the Happy Apple Quilt Shop and the Florida Quilting Center, quilters are finding their new favorite location for all things quilting.
Happy Apple Quilt Shop boasts an outstanding selection of fabrics, patterns, notions, books, kits and a spacious classroom. The Florida Quilting Center offers Innova™ longarm sales and rental, a variety of longarm classes and quilting services.
Happy Apple Quilts classroom is a center of excitement with classes and workshops for all skill levels and broad spectrum on interests: art quilts, modern quilting, traditional techniques, free motion quilting, paper piecing, purse making, and much more.
Florida Quilting Center is committed to serving the long arm community through a variety of products and services. Our custom built training center is designed for you. The long arm studio is a hub of activity with many training opportunities where you can further your skills. In addition to Innova sales, training, service and rental, Florida Quilting Center, brings you quality quilting supplies including batting, wide back fabrics, and long arm notions, rulers and tools. Florida Quilting Center is unique. As part of Happy Apple Quilts, we bring you both the long arm center and our complete quilt shop under one 7,000 square foot roof.
Our mission remains unchanged. We desire to provide the best products at the best price with the best customer service - in our new shop and on our websites. (see also FloridaQuiltingCenter.com)
Happy Apple Quilts began selling our fabrics at Sue's Bay Area Sewing in Palm Harbor, FL in early 2008. We quickly outgrew our corner of the shop and teamed up with Crafty Threads in August of 2010. Our business continued to grow and we opened our own shop in October 2012 the Shoppes of Cloverplace in Palm Harbor.
Karen has been quilting for nearly 40 years, starting with a baby quilt for her daughter Katie in 1977. With an art background and training in drawing and painting, she soon began creating her own quilt designs. Until the birth of her twin sons in 1990, Sharen was an accountant. She re-entered the business world in 2002. Sharen brings her business experience to the venture.
Sharen and her husband Dan moved to Oldsmar, FL in early 2015. Their three sons Ethan, Evan and Brian still live in Michigan.
Karen and her husband, Jim, moved to Safety Harbor, Florida in 1977 and now reside in Palm Harbor. They have two grown children, Katie and Randy. In August 2009, Katie and her husband, Jamie, welcomed Karen and Jim's first grandchild, Evelyn Rose. (Evie is named for our mother.) Randy and his wife Christine are the proud parents of little Ruby Ann, born in March 2013.
Both women have focused their lives on family, faith and home. Happy Apple Quilts embodies those values and we are grateful for the opportunity to share fantastic quilting products, a variety of quilting and sewing classes, Innova Quilting machines, and longarm training, supplies and services with you. We are very thankful for all God has done for us and give Him all the glory.
