This workshop teaches how to fuse fabric, tips on cutting and creative voicing.  Work off our artisan panels. Fabric Fusion breaks down the steps of raw edge applique. This is a great first step to art quilting. It is a simple technique that will unlock sewing possibilities. This is a No-Sew workshop.

    Quilters can find as much diversity in surface quilting with florals as there is with feathers.  “Mystical Florals” covers florals, leaves, and vine variations that will make your quilts take root in creativity.  You will learn a myriad of designs using these elements for your customer and personal quilting and apply them to edge-to-edge, custom blocks, border and sash designs.

    Putting on the Glitz: Hand Beading with June Colburn

    Beads and sequins create the shimmering surfaces on contemporary wearable art, art quilts, even home accessories.  Learn hand beading basics—the best needles, thread and stitches, so your beads NEVER fall off!  Explore easy principles of design and color as you practice by beading a piece of decorator fabric, suitable for finishing as a bag or pillow, adding to a crazy quilt or garment, or even framing!  Be inspired by a trunk show of beaded wonders!

    Fabric Painting with Stephanie Brandenburg

    Learn the basic techniques of painting on fabric.  We share with you our favorite textile paints and brush movements.  You choose the base fabric to coordinate with your home and mood.  You will leave with a finished 18 x 24 fabric canvas ready to hang on your wall. 

    Hand Sashiko Class
    2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

    $30 + $5 Kit

    Sashiko is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching or functional embroidery from Japan. In this introductory workshop to hand Sashiko, students will learn about the history of Sashiko and the basic supplies needed to stitch this unique style. Jen will also show you how to work the stitch and transfer designs, as well as discuss its application for big-stitch hand quilting. Students will start to stitch a preprinted panel that can be finished at home. Stitchers beware…Sashiko is addictive!

    Too Cool T-Shirt Quilts are fun to make because they require no iron-on stabilizer. Bring at least 12 uncut t-shirts, your sewing machine and supplies.  Learn to cut and sew the knit fabric without stabilizer, how to plan your layout and options for finishing your quilt. Think ahead for Christmas gifts!

    English Paper Piecing with Jen Lee

    Friday, July 13th 10:00am to 12:00pm

    English paper piecing dates back to the late 1700s when hexagon quilts became popular in England.  The technique involves basting fabrics over paper templates and then sewing the shapes together by hand.  In this introductory workshop to English paper piecing, students will learn the basic techniques including how to cut the fabric, baste the pieces and hand sew them together along with tips and tricks to complete the project successfully.  In addition, Jen will also show you how fussy cut fabric and use this technique to create secondary designs with a wow factor.  Students will start to put together a starburst that can be finished at home.

    Fabricating Art: Collage Design with June Colburn

    Collage is a wonderfully fun, easy technique for developing your artistic eye and creative spirit!  Explore new ways to look at fabric:  learn how to choose fabrics for collage, to “fussy” cut prints and batiks, to layer them effectively—in fact, to become your own fabric designer!  Practice designing asymmetrically, learn some tips to help you do this, even if your natural style is symmetric.  June will surprise you with a choice of color in fabulous fabric kits to make an 18” x 24” art quilt to finish at home.

    For centuries Asian artists have signed their work with seals carved from stone or ivory. The strikingly graphic vermillion “signatures” add a wonderful accent to their art.  Learn how to develop a chop from your name, nickname, or business name and use it to sign your clothing, quilt, and surface design work.     Quilt Restoration Workshop with Brenda Grampsas

    This workshop is designed to teach basic restoration skills needed to complete restoration work on a typical quilt.  Skills include:

    -Evaluation of whether or not the quilt is a good candidate for restoration. 

    -Evaluation of restoration work needed.  Worksheet completion.

     -Fabric and batting selection.  Sources of these materials.

    -Hand applique, embroidery and quilting stitches most often used.


    Intro to Unmarked Free Motion with Andrea Brokenshire

    Andrea has designed this class for the true beginner. Have fun and get comfortable moving fabric under the needle. Learn strategies for the best stitch quality including thread choices, needles, tension, thread delivery systems, and machine setup.     Selfie Fabric Collage with Stephanie Brandenburg

    Let’s walk through the features of the face in a playful, textile manner. This class is great for all ages and promises to be a lot of fun! Jamie will take on borders and blocks and show you his way to divide and conquer our everyday foe.
